OOOOk-lahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain

This week I have been in Tulsa Oklahoma where we are visiting family for about 6 days. I will admit I was nervous about leaving for a week because I was just starting to feel comfortable in Crossfit and my running was finally getting faster. Who wants to take a week off when you are finally feeling like superwoman?! Okay maybe not superwomen… more like lavagirl from all this dang heat but you get my point. So, I posted on My super awesome Crossfit page and asked another member if they knew of any WOD’s I could do without a gym. Lisa, who by the way is one of the most kick butt ladies I have had the pleasure of meeting, told me that there is an app called MY WOD. It is so cool! It allows you to search for Road WODS that you can do with only your body weight. It also lets you record your results from other WODS that are programmed in and you can also create your own! So far I am very impressed. With that cool little app in my back pocket I felt much more comfortable going on vacation.
Side note… does it sound insane to anyone else that I was hesitant to go on vacation??? All because I was afraid I couldn’t work out. I think I may have hit my head a couple times with a kettlebell ;) But, it just goes to show you that Crossfit is a life changer. I secretly think that our coaches put some kind of vapor in the air that is addicting so we keep coming back :)
Okay so on to the first day of Road WOD’s. My hubby and I decided to do this workout:
5 Rounds for time:
Run 200M
10 Squats
10 Push-ups.
We started out by using another cool app, man what did we do before smart phones, that measured Meters. We used our kids sidewalk chalk to mark a beginning and an end in the street. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon and even in Oklahoma was pretty darn hot.
Our first couple of rounds were done with Zeal… trash talking… all out sprints. After the third round we started to feel the effects of the 2000 degree oven that people call Oklahoma and sloooowed down. I, honestly, had to move to women’s push-ups because I was just that worn out. I mean who would have thought that 5 rounds would kick your butt so much!
About round 4, these little teenie boppers came walking by towards the community pool and actually stopped to ask us if we had the code for the pool. Um Hello! Do you not see that I am in the middle of dying here.. I am one push-up away from sliming your shoes with my lunch. Go away! Haha… I didn’t actually say that. I think what came out was mumbled and I must have looked crazed because they backed up and started walking fast towards the pool ;)
We finally finished the WOD with a time of 10:04. My notes in MY WOD actually say.. Hot as Hell… I think that is pretty close to the correct description. I am hoping to get at least one more work out in before we leave. Here’s to Road WODS and all the silly looks you get from the locals :)
